  • What exactly is considered home inventory? The term "home inventory" has two meanings:
    • As a noun, home inventory includes all of the items in your
      home(s), including garages, basements, attics, cars, and other personal possessions that belong to you. Home inventory also includes upgrades made to your home, such as crown molding, ceramic tile, fixtures, and much more.
    • As a verb, home inventory is the process of documenting the contents of your home. It is a requirement for accurately processing a claim with your insurance provider in the event of property loss.
  • Why is it important to keep track of my home inventory? Keeping track of your home inventory is important when it comes to insurance claims. The burden of proof is on the homeowner, not the insurance company, to identify his or her home inventory.   • Do I need to keep all of my receipts? Keeping your home inventory receipts is not mandatory but strongly recommended.     • If your home is destroyed by a fire, this will most likely not impact your boat that is docked at the harbor and, hence, your boat will not be included in the insurance claim, although both will be tracked in your CYA home inventory software system.
    • If a hurricane destroys both your home and boat, having a home inventory software system that accurately tracks these items is the safest way to assure proper reimbursement from your insurance company.
  • May I include the improvements to my home? Yes! If you want to get reimbursed for the improvements that have been made to your home, list them in CYA's home inventory software system. Specialty items, such as oak flooring, Kohler® faucets, and crown molding are often overlooked and insurance companies typically won't suggest you include them. Since the burden of proof is on you to identify every detail of your home, proactive home inventory software accounting makes financial sense!
  • How much time will it take to input my home inventory? That will depend on the size of your home and the quantity of its contents.
